Boxes of Love for the Weekend!

Friday, July 16th, 2010 | Event Preview | No Comments

A few bits and bobs going on this weekend with the big elephant in the room being the Lovebox weekender. Now extended to three days featuring the likes of Roxy Music, Grace Jones, Hot Chip, Hercules and Love Affair to name a few stellar names. Saturday looks like a hot tip with Roxy Music headlining the bill along with Mark Ronson. The terribly named Relentless Energy Stage hosts a solid line up consisting of Bookashade, Jesse Rose, Henrik Schwarz and personal favourite Dixon whilst Grandmaster Flash rounds off the Rizla arena on a old skool hip hop tip. A few tickets are left at Ticketmaster here. › Continue reading

Wolf + Lamb – Love Someone | Album Review

Wednesday, June 9th, 2010 | Album Review | No Comments

These days Wolf and Lamb is synonymous with good quality, forward thinking music as well as a bloody good night out. The boys from Brooklyn can do no wrong at the moment as the reputation of their label, music, parties and names have spread far around the globe. The label in particular has served as a launching pad for spectacular up and coming talent such as Seth Troxler, Shaun Reeves, Soul Clap and Nicholas Jaar, whilst their countless DJ appearances across Europe and in their hometown New York have firmly cemented their places in clubber’s memories. So for Gadi Mizrahi and Zev Einsenberg, it seems like the perfect time to release their debut artist album which is an accumulation of material produced whilst on the road from the last year of touring. › Continue reading

Troxler On & On & On &…

Friday, April 23rd, 2010 | News | No Comments

Aloha! It has been a bit quiet on the earPipe front. Being stuck in doors for the past few weeks has meant I’ve fallen out of love with clubland, but something to bring me right back is Troxler’s On & On & On &… set recorded at Fabric the last time they decided to open for a couple of days straight. Enjoy :o )

Full Day’s Shift at Fabric On & On & On…, Dinner Break at Secretsundaze – Full Time Rave Review!

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010 | Event Reviews | 1 Comment

Photos by Nik Torrens for RA

After the success of the Fabric 10th Birthday it showed that marathon Berghain style party sessions could work in London, so it made sense for fabric to give it another stab, this time under the “just for fun” circumstances. So the first weekend in March saw fabric host another 30 hour marathon session from Saturday night through till Monday morning, with a line up equally as mammoth to suit. Everything was pointing to a party as fun and wild as the 10th birthday, but ultimately that was its main draw back.

Like a younger sibling “On and On…” inadvertently followed in the footsteps of its older sibling “the 10th Birthday”, where every detail was compared to the other every step of the way. First comparison to be made was the crowd and atmosphere. Arriving on Sunday morning, Troxler is in full affect with Craig Richards. Room 1 is a comfortable busy, similar to the 10th Birthday and perfect for throwing shapes; except the main difference was a lacking edge in the atmosphere. › Continue reading

Seth Troxler – Boogybytes Vol 5. | Album Review

Friday, February 19th, 2010 | Album Review | No Comments

Detroit is under going a bit of a renaissance at the moment. As the once global dominant motor industry continues to crumble electronic dance music is once again becoming a prime export. Current number one export for Detroit on its third generation of techno models is Seth Troxler. He’s been making some great music over the last few years, injecting his weird and playful character into the house music genre which had become cold and processed in the years prior. Probably the most talked about thing with Troxler are his DJ sets. His hunger for the party and fun transfers directly to his sets taking crowds through musically unexpected but ultimately fun ”journeys”. His ability to read a crowd, react and then send them on an off guard curveball has seen him tear dancefloors up and win the hearts of many across the globe. So the announcement of him doing the next Boogybytes CD, a series that is known to give DJs free reign, has set big expectations from the chattering masses. Could Troxler capture and condense his peculiarities and unpredictability on to a small plastic disc? › Continue reading

Another Masochistic Weekend from Fabric

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010 | Event Preview | 1 Comment

Just a heads up for an upcoming mammoth party – Fabric On & On & On & On…. The folks at fabric are going to throw another 30 hour marathon since the 10th Birthday was so well received. The last one was definitely one of the legendary parties of 2009. It had the perfect crowd with the most eye watering of line-ups ever seen and an unbelievable atmosphere that validated why the club has been around for 10 years. We certainly gushed about it in our review the other month.

On the 6th March Fabric › Continue reading

Life Beyond the M25 – The Warehouse Project is Back in Manchester

Monday, August 24th, 2009 | Event Preview | No Comments

warehouse crowd 2

It’s pretty easy to stay stuck on this fair island called London. It seems everything you could possibly need is right here within the confines of our concrete perimeter, the M25. But believe it or not life does exist beyond those walls. For the last four years, during the autumn and winter months, Manchester has been the clubbing destination of the North. The reason – a grotty car park found in the arches of Manchester’s Piccadilly train station where the Warehouse Project setup shop to host some of the strongest nights past the Watford Gap service station.

Once again the team have put together another great run of nights starting from the end of September and running every weekend through till New Years Day. Last year we had great fun at the Cocoon night where Tobi Neumann absolutely smashed the main room after Sven Vath and the Ar:Pi:Ar boys completely stamped their mark on the back room. We also heard great reports about the Minus night with Richie Hawtin and the Resident Advisor night with Luciano and John Digweed.

So what’s hot for this year season? We think the following will be worth checking out. › Continue reading

Seth Troxler – Aphrika EP

Monday, January 19th, 2009 | Single Review | No Comments

seth-troxlerSeth Troxler’s Detroit upbringing has led to another experimental EP for Wolf and Lamb. Aphrika, the title track, is a simple but interesting track. A basic drum track of hollow tom toms and hi hats provide a subtle background for the spoken word monologue. As the monologue progresses prolonged synth lines slowly engulf the foreground in a warm blanket before taking hold to see the track out. Its subtle in its affect, but one you take notice of.

On the other side of this release is Seth Troxler’s remix of Nicholas Jaar’s The Student. It’s a contrasting mix of subdued and fierce percussion which slowly builds to a drop of trashy cymbal hits and splutters of electronic blips. The contrasting subdued percussion and guitar sample still runs throughout the track which creates this weird multidirectional pull. Its hard to make sense of which is ironically both detrimental and interesting at the same time.

Seth Troxler – Aphrika EP is out Feb ’09. Buy other Seth Troxler tracks from DJDownload.

Tracklist:
1. Seth Troxler – Aphrika
2. Nicholas Jaar – The Student (Seth Troxler Mix)
