You’d think having an extra day off would be a god send but in all honesty it’s a bit of a ball ache. This weekend, Landan Taan will swell to a beachball sized glut of party tourists keen to get their third dose of fun for the year (the other two times being Easter weekend and new years eve). You can expect the clubs, streets and parks to be packed with an assault of people forcibly trying to have fun this weekend. Berlin’s Sebo K will be joining Marcus Worgull for another Friday shindig of sublime house music. Get yourselves down to show Hackney council how important this club really is. Sebo K – Spirits | Single Review

Sebo K has been keeping quiet for most of the year with Spirits being his first release for Mobilee since his 2008 smash Diva. Two tracks come on the package, but they’re essentially the same track with two added options. Kind of like picking out the upholstery for a car except with Spirits you chose the hook. You can choose between the bongo-tastic drum version or the basic no extra cost strings and piano riff version. The main body of the track is warm classic house. Deep synth stabs and bulbous beats provide a typical 2009 house backing. On the strings and piano version the beats are a tad hollower to make room for the Strings of Life-esque riff. Its pretty catchy but a bit…well… Strings of Life. Strings of Life strings + standard deep house = meh.
But for the leather interior option, ie the Drums Version of Spirits you get some intricate bongo work from Max Moya. Sebo has beefed up the kick drum to make it punchier whilst Max Moya skits on top with some really infectious bongo rolls. It breathes some life into the track with the bongo skit making it highly addictive. Bongos plus deep house isn’t a 2009 invention, but it does bring out the tribal dancing instincts in you which win over the strings and piano combo any day.

My god, this weekend is so packed that there is hardly any room to manoeuvre for hangovers. But even though we know of the impending doom that is likely to happen next week in the form of an almighty comedown we’re still going to give you our low down on what seems fun for the short term.
If you’re starting things early then new club Cable in London Bridge has their opening night on Thursday. Will Saul, Dave Congreve and the Disco Bloodbath fellas will no doubt be cracking open a bottle of bubbly in celebration.
But now on to the real weekend. Friday sees the French grand master Laurent Garnier debut his live show in the UK at matter. Things kick off early with the live show starting at 7pm and running through till 9pm. That’s then followed by a pretty monstrous line-up consisting of DJ sets from Garnier, Francois K, Yousef, Norman Jay, The Unabombers and Chris Coco. Not a bad way to start a weekend eh? If a trip all the way out to Greenwich is too much (and I don’t blame you) then maybe a trip to East Village where everyone’s favourite Romanian DJ, Pedro of a:rpia:r fame is manning the decks in the basement. Mobilee Back to Back Remixes Part 1 and 2 | Single Review

Mobilee start the year with a double remix package to support Miss Jools forthcoming Back to Back compilation. For her complilation Miss Jools chooses her top Mobilee picks from 2008 on the first CD and then on the second CD she mixes a compilation of Mobilee remixes. And its that second CD which has spurred this double release.
Part 1 sees one of Mobilee’s finest Sebo K remixed by Nick Curly and Efdemin. The 8Bit and Cécile records extravaganza Nick Curly takes on Sebo’s Diva, one of last year’s biggest Mobile releases. The original was a ballsy tribal monster with striking diva vocal snippets. Nick Curly totally transforms the track into his own. He saps out the ballsiness and swaps it for smooth funk. The first half of the track is spent building up to the first kick drum with crisp percussion and a slap bass funk line which slowly comes to the fore. When the kick drum releases all the pieces fall into place. The diva vocals are sparingly used and quite rightly so. The funk riff and crisp percussion is all it needs for the excellent house vibe Nick creates.
EarPipe’s Large Weekend For No Real Reason!

Tally Ho! There is a rather large weekend on the horizon and it’s not even a bank holiday or anything special like that. Why would the gods bless us with such entertainment? I don’t have the answer to that. All I do know is that some serious fun can be had and I mean that with a capital S. First up, if you like your hip hop with a bit of humour then Fabric is right up your street. They have Yoda and DJ Format, truly the greatest DJs of the happy fun hip hop genre. If that doesn’t wet your whistle they stuck the Scratch Perverts in there for shits n giggles. But wait, we’re not done yet. We haven’t even talked about room 2 yet. Goldie, Dillinja, High Contrast, Commix and Nu:Tone. That’s pretty much everything that’s good about drum n bass in one place. So that will kick your weekend off, but the main event for us is of course Field Day. We’ve been banging on about it a little. Take note of our useful guide of things we would like to see or our little chat with organiser Tom Baker. Taking place this Saturday at London’s Victoria Park, it’s sure to be a giggle with bands and DJs from that field they call left as well as a country style village fete. Of course day time fun is one thing night time is the other. And this Saturday its about Fabric….again… .You maybe sick of those three rooms from Friday, but this lineup is just too good to pass up. First of all room one is being headlined by the prince of dark regretimized music. Our man from Brighton who rocks Berlin it is of course Radioslave. He’s being supported by Sebo K, Mobilee man of mystery. His deluxe deep and dark house sounds will be perfect for that main room. Down the corridor they’ve gone and shoved in the Scottish Sunday party fiends Optimo! They also have stalwart Andrew Weatherhall chipping in too. Then in room three Greg Wilson is serving up a hot dish of electro funk. Richards and Francis will be there to make sure the place don’t burn down too. If you haven’t moved into the foetal position come Sunday morning. Then those that like their Sunday afternoon’s debauched can head to Secretsundaze where they have once again taken over the Ministry courtyard.
