Friday

Innervisions at CAMP (info)
Tonight is sure to be a road block at the City Arts and Music Project as Innervisions rolls into town with Dixon and Ame. That’s going to be huge.

Unwind at East Village (info)
If you can’t get in at CAMP, then head down the road to East Village. Baaz, Le Loup and Simon Lee of Faze Action fame will be cosmically easing you into the weekend.

Deadly Rhythm Vs Hot Flush at Plan B (info)
For something a bit grittier, Deadly Rhythm go head to head with Hot Flush Recordings at Plan B. Scuba, Appleblim and Joy Orbison litter their line-up. And its only eight bucks.

Saturday

Bread and Butter Day Party at Light Bar (info)
We’re liking the sound of the Bread and Butter party at Light Bar. They’re in the garden, weather permitting, all day Saturday with the brilliant Argy at the helm. Lets hope its not to damp as that could be a corker.

Weatherhall, Slam, Butane Todd Terji at Fabric (tickets)
They’re open for business as usual. They’ll be fine, but they need your support through these hard times. Get yourself down this weekend!

Mulletover 5 Years of Mobilee (info)
Mobilee are only five years old? I swear they’ve been around for longer? Anja Schneider and Sebo K two Mulletover regulars return to the Shoreditch Hearn Street Car Park for a Mobilee knees up.

Secretsundaze at RichMix
The new form Secretsundaze are now doing secret Sunday parties. So this is a secret, don’t tell anyone else. This Sunday they’re in the loft at RichMix on Bethnal Green Road. Giles and James will be joined by the excellent Mole and Brawther . It’s a paying guestlist only entry so get your names to guestlist@secretsundaze.net.

Ketoloco at Light Bar (info)
Light Bar is becoming a bit of a bank holiday epicentre this weekend. Those lads from a Leeds basement have moved things above board and into the sun light. Joining the Ketoloco DJs will be Julien Chaptal, Shonky, Alex Niggemann and Craig Torrance. Big for a Sunday afternoon. Tickets are sold out so get your queuing shoes on.

Move D at Horse and Groom (info)
The other terrace option is down the road at the Horse and Groom. The brilliant Move D will be joining the Warm and Discovery resident DJs for what will hopefully be a sunny day.

Hi Tek Soul @ Ministry (Buy Tickets)

It mainly boils down to a US techno face off. In the red corner we have Hi Tek Soul at Ministry. Derrick May returns to his exclusive London residency with Osunlade and Theo Parrish in toe. It’s a massive lineup for the main room sound system. In the other rooms Jim Masters heads up the newly named 103 room with Alex Robotnick, whilst the Micron guys take over the loft with a bit of help from Danny Ketoloco. And this is just the start of what’s to come at Ministry over the next year.

Jeff Mills @ Fabric (Buy Tickets)

In the blue corner however is an equally big titan of Detroit techno – Jeff Mills is making his return to London and Fabric room 1. He hasn’t played room 1 for quite some time, so this is sure to be something special, especially if Mills whips out his 909 for a bit of off the cuff percussion. Aux88 and Craig Richards will provide some worthy support, whilst the folks from Wiggle 16 years on will we slamming on some tech house in room 2.

Lost @ Plastic People (Buy Tickets)

Steve Bicknell continues his Lost residency at Plastic People, where DJs come and play anything that goes. One who does play across the board is Benji B, he’s on to headline the endangered basement this Saturday.

Wish I could be at either of these! Enjoy yourselves silly.

My god, this weekend is so packed that there is hardly any room to manoeuvre for hangovers. But even though we know of the impending doom that is likely to happen next week in the form of an almighty comedown we’re still going to give you our low down on what seems fun for the short term.

If you’re starting things early then new club Cable in London Bridge has their opening night on Thursday. Will Saul, Dave Congreve and the Disco Bloodbath fellas will no doubt be cracking open a bottle of bubbly in celebration.

But now on to the real weekend. Friday sees the French grand master Laurent Garnier debut his live show in the UK at matter. Things kick off early with the live show starting at 7pm and running through till 9pm. That’s then followed by a pretty monstrous line-up consisting of DJ sets from Garnier, Francois K, Yousef, Norman Jay, The Unabombers and Chris Coco. Not a bad way to start a weekend eh? If a trip all the way out to Greenwich is too much (and I don’t blame you) then maybe a trip to East Village where everyone’s favourite Romanian DJ, Pedro of a:rpia:r fame is manning the decks in the basement. He’s sure to have things bumping with his blend of techno and house. Moving on to Saturday and there is one event which is sure to be a complete roadblock.

That is of course Ricardo Villalobos at Fabric. He’s going back to back with everyone’s other favourite Romanian DJ Raresh. Their sounds are similar so this should surely be a blinding B2B set from the duo. Be warned however, this will be a roadblock event so be prepared to dance on the spot pogoing to the beats. It’s also not advisable to wing it on the door so get your tickets here.

If being stuck in a sea of people until the early hours of the morning isn’t your thing then Jay Haze at the recently reopened T-Bar is popping in for a visit. The guy is releasing a Fabric CD in the coming months so it could be cool to check out his sound and the new venue (apparently a converted S&M retreat). Also worth a mention is part three of Cable’s opening parties. UR legend Rolando is over along with Chateau Flight and Rub n Tug. There’s also resident support from our favourites Will Saul and Dave Congreve. Tickets are only £12 so it would be rude not to hear some quality techno. Get your tickets here.

That brings us neatly on to Sunday where things start from the get go. Egg play host to the Mixmag after party where the Ketoloco folks have Pier Bucci and Tim Paris firing up the decks on their garden terrace for those that has trouble sleeping. Reckon if the weather is on form this could be a top class after party. You can still get tickets here.

If you’re really wrong you can go from the Mixmag after party straight to Secretsundaze who will be taking over the MOS terrace in the afternoon. Unfortunately Onur Ozer who was booked to play is having visa troubles so instead they’ve got Tobi Neumann who is definitely a worthy replacement. The last few times I’ve seen Tobi play it was been phenomenal jacking grooves which are bound to go perfect in the sunshine. Tickets have sold out so you might have to chance it on the door or on the tinterweb. There are however tickets left for the evening party round the corner at the Coronet where Sebo K will be making his long awaited Secretsundaze debut. Get your tickets from RA here.

If south of the river isn’t your thing then Mulletover are having their summer close down party in Old Street. The venue is the Basement on Scrutton Street off Curtain Road. If it’s the venue I think it is then it’s a raw industrial basement which should have a great vibe comparing to those Addias Originals adverts. Providing the music will be Cecille’s Robert Dietz with Burnski, Anthea and Geddes in support. The staple party will be sorely missed until they return in October, so send the Mulletover folks off on their summer travels in high spirits. Get your tickets here.

Our final mention of fun things to do is Dig Your Own Rave at T-Bar. It’s been a while since the hay days of free messy Sunday evenings at the T. But they’re back with a TBA line up which could be special considering all the talent in the vicinity. So even if you don’t go big you could always pop in to the old faithful. So there you go… The weather looks good as do the parties. Bon Voyage!

I love this stretch of April to May. There’s a nice series of bank holidays which firstly equates to four day weeks or long weekends, but secondly and most importantly it means so many great rave up opportunities. You might have only just flushed the last bank holiday weekend out of your system, but here it is again, another extended weekend in our midst.

So what are the options for the May day rave up?

Saturday has some nice options with Excuse The Mess being top of the pile. They’ve got My My live along with the always excellent Matthew Styles in room 1. Then in room 2 Ralf Kollman takes the spotlight to entertain along with Shane Watcha.

The first part of Eastern Electrics also kicks off on the Saturday too. They’ll be vibing with some dub-tastic sounds with Dublime who have brought in Brendon Moeller. Room 2 has been taken over by the folks that brought you the Bloc Weekender. Their room is looking particularly sharp with the likes of Metro Area, Appleblim and Zomby. Then the third and final room is hosted by the Man Make Music guys. They’ve got the West Coast house head and Buzzin Fly aficionado Justin Martin.

But in true bank holiday weekend style, the parties really kick off on Sunday and being the start of May for most Brits we’re in full blown summer. That means, outdoor parties in blustery not quite hot weather. Secretsundaze have their first outdoor party on the recently refurbed terrace of That formerly the House and Terrace in Greenwich. Apparently the terrace was always quite good, but with its Greenwich location it used to attract a pretty unsavoury crowd. Anyways, with a strict door policy and the terrace done up in the Secretsundaze way we can expect a pretty decent party. Brothers Vibe, Move D and Melon will be providing the tunes to what we hope will be a sunny day (a quick BBC weather check says sunny intervals!). If you’re after tickets you might be out of luck as they sold out the other week. But you could give your money a run on the door.

Another outdoor party which is a bit closer to home comes from those Circo Loco and tranquiliser lovers KetoLoco. They’re throwing a shindig at Light Bar in Shoreditch. They’ve brought in man of the moment SiS to do a live set along with Hobo from Minus, Ilario Alicante and Craig Torrance off MurMur. A balanced quality underground lineup. Lets hope its stays sunny for those guys too.

The final outdoor party that takes our fancy is the Escape From New York Roof Top Party at the Queen of Hoxton. They’ve got a pretty spectacular roof top terrace which will play host to Holy Ghost from DFA and The Revenge. They’re also laying on a BBQ spread for those which need to eat through the daytime sessions. Sounds yum.

Once the sun sets, not to be seen until Monday, the main option is to head to Eastern Electrics for their second part of the Bank Holiday extravaganza. Sunday sees them team up with Mulletover once again who have brought in 2000 and One, The Mole, Craig Richards and Karl Gonzales. Our disco favourites Disco Bloodbath once again take over room two with Manchester and Electric Chair legends The Unabombers. When most people think of Easter they think the second coming of Christ, Easter eggs, fluffy bunnies and daffodils. For a select few it’s all about Easter weekend and how to run your mind into the ground for four days and nights. I’m in the latter camp.

This year the options seem to be bunched around key days. Thursday night has an all mighty clash. In one corner you’ve got your scenster nights. Secretsundaze do their annual thing at the coronet theatre which will see Ame, Dixon and Henrik Schwarz combine forces to create some ableton improve amalgamation live set where they be as one together. No its not some gay love in between the quartet, it’s actually their new project Critical Mass. The whole thing sounds pretty interesting, especially if its anything along the lines of their recent Granfather Paradox mix. After the live session, Dixon and Ame will be dropping a dj set or two along with the SS and Horse Meat Disco ressies.

However if Secretsundaze all sounds a bit too complex with the live sets and you just want to go and party your ass of to some party tunes, then maybe Disco Bloodbath is for you? They’re celebrating their 2nd birthday and to help them they’ve brought in their Scottish mentors Optimo who have been playing party tunes for countless years. Todd Terje will be headlining the main room for the Bloodbath along with the residents, whilst Optimo residents Twitch and Wilkes will be keeping a handle on things with Gucci Soundsystem.

If that all seems a bit to fashionista and you just want raw big room stuff, then you want to be heading towards Koko or matter. Old Coxy is doing a party at the former with Nic Fanciulli and Yousef, whilst Diggers is doing his Bedrock thang at the latter.

Something for everyone to kickstart the weekend. However Friday and Saturday look a bit thin on the ground for anything gripping. The best Friday can muster up is Brothers Vibe at East Village. Saturday fairs a little better with Reboot and Ketoloco at Lightbox in Vauxhall. Also Fabric is worth a punt with MANDY and Tobi Neumann. But other than that nothing that jumps out.

But its probably for the best as things get going early with the Bugged Out All Dayer at the Old Queens Head in Angel. I believe the party vibe is retro 80s! Once that’s warmed the old engine up, the place to head is Mulletover where they’ll be celebrating five whole years. At the Seager Storage Units as per usual, they’ll be seeing in their 5th Anniversary with those Romanian favourites a:rpia:r, reel to reel extraordinaire Greg Wilson, the strange but highly talented musicians Noze and disco/funk revivers Linkwood Family. DELUXE!

If things are still functioning you can round off the weekend with a trip to matter where old skool hip hop legends Jazzy Jeff and Grandmaster Flash will be cutting and juggling up prime hip hop before the days of diiirty britches and bling.

So go forth and celebrate the rebirth of Christ by hurling yourself head first into the gutter.
