EarPIPE’s Extensive But a Tad Late NYE/NYD Guide
Thursday, December 17th, 2009 | Event Preview | 1 Comment
So I guess I should do some NYE recommendations since it’s that time of year again. However I might be a little late on the ball these days as you practically need to start planning your NYE activities in the summer. But if you’re still stuck for something to do here goes:
Eastern Electrics (Buy Tickets)

Top of the picks again is Eastern Electrics. Last year’s party was quite phenomenal – great line up, good crowd and interesting location. This year is more of the same. Headlining the main room is the amazing Steve Bug, he’ll be bringing in the new year with his 11pm set. Shonky is in there for some moral support whilst the BLOC folk take over the second room with a seriously dubbed out line-up – Kode 9, Appleblim and Plastician. Finally Man Make Music host the third room with a couple of bumping headliners in the form of Justin Martin and Riva Starr, a pretty stellar line-up for new years. Location wise they’ve taken over some railway arches, this time in London Bridge, next door to the new Shard building on St Thomas Street three minutes walk from the station. Tickets are selling out extremely fast so get them now at a relatively reasonable £32.50. › Continue reading
The Berlin Bus is Coming and Everybody’s Jumping | Weekend Round Up
Thursday, November 26th, 2009 | Event Preview | No Comments
It’s the end of the month… That can mean only one thing – pay day! And don’t the clubs know it. The arse end of the month is so stuffed with nights that it’s actually touching cloth wanting to overspill into December. Consider this the official start to the run down to Christmas and New Years Eve/Day. › Continue reading
Hector – Got Fringe | Single Review
Tuesday, June 16th, 2009 | Single Review | No Comments
Hector is kind of living the dream at the moment. Firstly he holds down his day job at Phonica probably the best record shop in the country, second he’s DJing here there and everywhere and finally he’s hanging in the right circles to take over from DJs pining for a black pudding roll at Fabric. Now he might be adding a fourth string to that bow by become a credible producer too.
Got Fringe is his first release for Mobilee. The title track takes on your typical in vogue deep house. Some warm basslines, a shuffling beat with a hint of jazz percussion, some conga lines and a Latin American vocal stab. All pretty standard stuff. The digital only track Canaca is more of the same fashionable deep house stuck in a groove. Its pleasurable but not memorable. However it is the B-Side, Taking Me For A Ride which really strikes a chord. It’s pretty much a massive thud of a kick drum with some crisp 909 cymbals which together rumbles up the rawest of grooves. Add a hypnotic vocal stab and acid tweak and you’ve got yourself this ridiculous old style minimal house track which is so simple yet so affective.
A: Got Fringe?
B: Taking Me For A Ride?
Digital Only Track: Canaca

Sorry for being a bit slow on the posts front recently. Its mainly down to me being found at weekends crawling around the floor of darkened rooms playing repetitive electronic music. That said I want to tell you about a few of those excursions.
Firstly way back at the end of February we got invited to the launch of Nic Fanciulli’s Saved Sessions at matter. The brand spanking new club was ideal for the heavy weight line up that Nic had brought in. Nic Fanciulli himself played a brilliantly judged tech house to techno set, whilst the the comedy techno antics of Green Velvet blew the socks off many a bewildered tourist clubber. The New York legend Francois K then smashed it home leaving only the lovers of techno to revel in the ridiculous bass that the matter sound system pumps out. Hopefully this is the start of a beautiful residency. Judging by the next Saved Sessions it sure will be. Derrick Carter vs DJ Sneak, Dennis Ferrer, Theo Parrish, Jerome Sydenham and Will Saul!?!?!?!?!?!?Surely i’ve died and woken up in US house heaven?
Fast-forward a couple of weeks and we’re down at East Village where Prologue had brought in Norman Jay for a bit of Good Times magic. I was worried whether Norman Jay was a one trick pony with his chesse-a-thon sets as seen at Carnival. However I was happily proved wrong as he dug out some great house music to have the basement turned up to gas mark nine. › Continue reading
Sunday Evenings Just Got a Whole Lot More Interesting
Tuesday, February 17th, 2009 | Event Preview | No Comments
The first of what we hope will be many Sunday parties come from newcomers’ mUmU. Hailing from the cultural capital of Europe, Liverpool, the folks from mUmU want to give the big smoke a shot after making a rather large name for themselves at a frightening pace in the last year. Their nights have quite literally seen the who’s who of underground house and techno from names like Pier Bucci, Sebo K, Mr C, Rhadoo and Matt Tolfrey. It’s obvious these guys want quality at their nights.
For their London debut they will take over the hallowed Shoreditch tunnel of Cargo to bridge the gap between early evening and midnight. For the opening night they’ve brought in a selection of London’s finest stalwarts with Simon Baker of Cocoon/20:20 Vision fame, Circo Loco’s master of the groove Clive Henry and 12” pusher turned global DJ Hector. › Continue reading
Anyone for High Tea?? T-Bar Closing Parties
Thursday, November 13th, 2008 | Event Preview, Events, News | 1 Comment
You may or may not have heard that London’s beloved T-Bar is set to close in mid December. A while back they sent out e-mails asking for punters to find a new location for them. Lazy if you ask me! But lets hope they succeed as T-Bar has been a staple night spot for those looking for quality underground music all at no cost. In its prime the likes of Damien Lazarus, Michael Mayer, Ivan Smagghe and Andrew Weatherhall were gracing their DJ booth frequently on every night though the week but the weekend and the Sunday carry on party used to be nothing short of ridiculous. So in true “I should have gone home hours ago” style, Tea Bar have got a series of parties set through the week to go out with a bang, no doubt with the aim of hospitalising a few in the process.
Some great DJs will be coming through their doors, from the likes of Chloe, Pier Bucci, Anja Schneider, Cassy and Heidi, but our top picks has to be Damien Lazarus’ return with chum Michael Mayer and Mulletover Geddes for their infamous Stink night. Whilst on the right side of the weekend, Thursday, sees Andrew Weatherhall and Ivan Smagghe resurrect their Wrong Meeting night. And finally T Bar closes with the very last Dig Your Own Rave, where the Sunday afternoon and evening is whittled away with Jamie Jones, Matthew Styles, Dave Congreve, Clive Henry and many more.
It’s sure to be a painful couple of weeks saying goodbye at work. Sickies at the ready….
