Plenty of Basement Action for the Weekend!

For your consideration – a few things happening this weekend, and they’re all underground quite literally in basements.

Warm at Plastic People with Steve Bug (Info)

London just can’t get enough of the Bug at the moment. He’s been popping up all over the place of recent times. This Friday sees him in the intimate surrounds of Plastic People for Warm. Steve Bugs mix of electronic house will be perfect for the low ceilings of the plastic people basement. However this perfect match of DJ and venue has caught the eye of many. So if you haven’t got one of the few tickets that went on sale you want to be getting yourself down there early doors.

Red Bull Music Academy at The C.A.M.P (Info)

On the same night, another basement on the other side of the Old Street roundabout will be having its foundations tested. Red Bull will be taking over as part of the Red Bull Music Academy and they’ve brought in a cosmologic line-up. They’ll be hosting the king of bubble tease Maurice Fulton and New York’s Morgan Geist of Metro Area fame. If that’s not enough to get you out in the cold, the fact that this is all on for free should definitely seal the deal.

Fabric with Tobi Neumann and Akufen (Buy Tickets)

Saturday night looks a bit quiet in the city but there a still a few gems that shine out. One of those, of course, is fabric. When all else fails you can always count on the sturdy “super club”. The delectable Tobi Neumann is back in town to jack up room 1 on a course of big house beats and rolling basslines. Akufen is on with a rare live appearance and the likes of Vera, Billy Nasty, Sammuel L Sessions, Mark Broom and Fred Everything. Not bad for a quiet Saturday.

Hypercolour at T-Bar (Info)

Hypercolour start their new year with their first night at T-Bar. They’ve shipped over Catz and Dogz to headline the basement. I only found out that Catz and Dogz were formerly known as 3 Channels, who were knocking out some great dark technoey tracks the other year. So if the production is anything to go by they should put together a full of beans set. Support will be coming from the Hypercolour residents and new Leeds export Mono Cult. Also don’t forget there’s a new door tax at T-Bar, but its still free before 11pm.

Others worth a look in are East Village’s 2^nd birthday with Quentin Harris, Vita Luna Presents 8Bit Records at Cable with and Parallel presents INXEC at Sosho.

EarPipe’s Last Minute, One Page Sonar 2009 Guide

Its just gone midnight on Wednesday night… so no time for an in depth Sonar preview. So here it is in a business like bullet point format:

Thursday

Catch Jeff Mills doing an afternoon set at Sonar under his original Detroit guise The Wizard

Catch Konono No1 blast out some congo riddems. Seen videos and the look fun!

If you’re invited hit the Mobilee rooftop pool party at Hotel Diagonal

For the night time hit the Minimal Nation launch party at Nitsa with Robert Hood, Ben Klock and James Ruskin

If rinsing techno is not your thing then either try 8Bit Vs Bloop at Sugar Beach Club with Nick Curly or maybe Club4 at City Hall with Audion Live, Marco Carola and Paco Osuna

The other biggie is of course Luciano, Loco Dice and Martin Buttrich at Kanna Beach Club!

Friday

If you’re looking for something to do in the early hours of Friday morning then check out Kubicle. The London party are down at Macarena with Pier Bucci.

Friday day I guess its worth checking out La Roux on the Huw Stephens BBC Introducing showcase.

On the same showcase Micachu and The Shapes also looks really interesting. Rule Britania!

If you’re not at Sonar then the 10 years of BPitch Control boat party is on from 7am till 4pm. If not the boat then there is the beach party at Baila La Playa

In terms of Sonar night activities I guess its worth checking out the two pop headliners. See new comer Little Boots to see what the hype is about and also old skooler Grace Jones to see what the hype was about.

Other than that it’s disco disco disco! James Murphy and Pat Mahoney do a disco set in the SonarClub arena, whilst Erol Alkan does his Disco 3000 thing at SonarLab.

O did we forget to mention Richie Hawtin is playing? As always he’ll be present at Sonar, but only for two hours and from 2am! Sonar sort it out!

If being in a massive arena space isn’t your thing then the Kompakt party at Nitsa looks ridiculously good. Gui Burrato, DJ Koze and Superpitcher. Need I say more?

Saturday

As for Saturday day. I’m not to sure what to check out. Culoe de Song on Innervisions is closing the SonarDome so that will be worth checking. Also Busy P should be rinsing the French filter sound in the SonarVillage.

Then at night is where its really going down. The definitive must is Orbital.

Then after that Jeff Mills is supposed to be doing a special AV set

Carl Craig will be closing the SonarPub which sure to be amazing

Marcel Dettmann and Tadeo are substitutes for the techno big boys but i’m sure they’ll deliver a great show

And if you can squeeze them in, Moderat would be good to catch going on the strength of their new album

Off Sonar, BPitch are still continuing their 10 year celebrations at Nitsa.

But if you’re sick of the sight of them lot then Radioslave and co are down at BeCool or GetPhysical showcase DJ T, Lazarus and Matthew Dear at Wip. Both lookers if you ask me.

Sunday

Should I type on? Its been three days already surely there can’t be any more.

Well firstly Secretsundaze do their Sunday thing at La Terrazza with Ame and Dixon!!!!

But also contends with Ricardo Villalobos and Cassy at Kanna club. What a way to close out the weekend.
