The Bank Holiday Grumble
Friday, August 27th, 2010 | Event Preview | No Comments
You’d think having an extra day off would be a god send but in all honesty it’s a bit of a ball ache. This weekend, Landan Taan will swell to a beachball sized glut of party tourists keen to get their third dose of fun for the year (the other two times being Easter weekend and new years eve). You can expect the clubs, streets and parks to be packed with an assault of people forcibly trying to have fun this weekend. If you’re not too much of an idiot to spend £50+ on a bunch of half assed trance and yesteryear prog DJs playing to a crowd of baying halfwits non the wiser they’ve been fleeced, then I guess these could be a few so called suggestions for the weekend… › Continue reading

The Bank Holiday Pre Game
Wednesday, August 18th, 2010 | Event Preview | No Comments
The last bank holiday weekend for the year is just around the corner. Sad times for many as it marks the beginning of the descent into winter. This ensuing doom normally results in everyone going big for the weekend, and as a result, people tend to cool off the weekend before. But as any good football team will tell you its all about the pre-season friendly to get you match fit for the onslaught. I mean you don’t want to be flaking out on day two of the bank holiday because you didn’t practice a two day bender the weekend before. That would just be embarrassing. So here are a few pre bank hol weekend friendlies to get you ready for the long weekend.

My God this summer is absolutely flying through. We’re already half way through yet I can’t even remember the summer beginning. Still dizzy from being sucker punched, here’s the run down for this weekend…
Boxes of Love for the Weekend!
Friday, July 16th, 2010 | Event Preview | No Comments
A few bits and bobs going on this weekend with the big elephant in the room being the Lovebox weekender. Now extended to three days featuring the likes of Roxy Music, Grace Jones, Hot Chip, Hercules and Love Affair to name a few stellar names. Saturday looks like a hot tip with Roxy Music headlining the bill along with Mark Ronson. The terribly named Relentless Energy Stage hosts a solid line up consisting of Bookashade, Jesse Rose, Henrik Schwarz and personal favourite Dixon whilst Grandmaster Flash rounds off the Rizla arena on a old skool hip hop tip. A few tickets are left at Ticketmaster here. › Continue reading
earPIPE’s Sonar Disco Map
Tuesday, June 15th, 2010 | Event Preview | 1 Comment
It’s always a bit of a nightmare getting around a place that you don’t know, especially in a foreign country where you don’t speak the lingo. So to help you fellow party people, we’ve thrown together the earPIPE Sonar Disco Map which marks out all the clubs and venues where the parties are happening this year.
Feel free to use it, point to it, shove it in the face of unsuspecting locals or taxi drivers, or even show off to other uninformed clubbers who aren’t as touristy to bring a map.

This weekend Barcelona becomes the centre of attention as Sonar festival rolls into town. The festival itself is a jam packed 3 days and 2 nights of music and art featuring the likes of Plastikman, The Chemical Brothers and Roxy Music. However its not just the festival that garners all the attention, as for the same weekend Barcelona turns into a thriving party city with what are now known as the Off Sonar parties. This year we’re spoilt for choice in terms of party venues. We’ve got parties on beaches, on rooftops, on terraces, on boats and at secret villas. There’s even a few parties happening in them there nightclubs. There’s a lot to pick from so here’s what we think is looking pretty hot for the weekend. › Continue reading
Celebrate Your Inner Canadian With Richie Hawtin
Thursday, June 3rd, 2010 | Event Preview | 1 Comment
Richie Hawtin at Shake It! – Village Underground (Buy Tickets)
1st July is Canada day where all Canadian’s celebrate their national heritage by downing bottles of maple syrup and having fights on ice with hockey sticks. This year the global celebrations have been ramped up. In London, Canadians will be taking over Trafalgar Square for a day of hockey and maple syrup, but in between these important activities will be performances from some of Canada’s most prolific performers. Unfortunately the globally renowned wailer to sinking ships Celine Dion won’t be present, nor will the “Man I Feel Like A Woman” MILF Shania Twain. So it’s down to Canada’s 3rd biggest export Richie Hawtin to represent the musical achievement of a nation. He’ll be playing his set from 5:40pm before the live music concert begins at 6:00pm. In his mammoth 20 minute set we can expect an incredible journey stretching out across 2 or maybe 3 records.
But fear not, Layo and Bushwacka thought it would be a waste having Richie over for 20 minutes. So they’ve got him to play an impromptu set at Shake It that same night. They’ll be starting the weekend early in the industrial surroundings of Village Underground, which was the scene for recent Secretsundaze shenanigans. We’d imagine this is worth the Friday “sickie” as its pure undiluted Hawtin, no Minus, no Contakt, Just Richie.
Get you tickets before they fly out the door from TICKETWEB.

Tiesto, Richie Hawtin, Luciano and Deadmau5 to Form DJ Super Quartet
Thursday, April 1st, 2010 | Event Preview, News | 13 Comments
earPipe has learned today that some of the world’s best DJs will be forming a new DJ super quartet called Fig Bad. We have learned that the three time winner of the DJ Mag Top 100 Tiesto is in final talks with the techno legend Richie Hawtin. An unlikely pairing, it seems their love for stadium sized DJ shows has drawn them together. It is a well known fact on the dance music circuit between Amsterdam and Berlin that Hawtin secretly adores the big production values of the Tiesto live show, basing his Contakt and recent Plastikman shows around this concept. › Continue reading
We Talk Six Years of Mulletover With Geddes
Wednesday, March 31st, 2010 | Event Preview, News | No Comments
As you all know, staple London night Mulletover will be celebrating its sixth birthday this Sunday. So we thought we’d catch up with its co-founder Geddes for a quick chat on all things Mulletover.
Hi Geddes, 6 years of Mulletover, that’s quite a milestone. Are you feeling tired or have you still got plenty more to give?
This year I feel we’ve turned a corner, 6 years a long time to be doing a party. We’ve not missed one event in all that time. So crazy and surreal at the same time. I’ve still got more to give, as long as I’m excited the parties will keep happening.
So let’s start from the beginning, what were you doing before Mulletover and how did it come about between you and Rob Star?
Before Mulletover I worked in the bars in and around west London, did a bit of PR here and there for various companies and basically supported myself with freelance work while I concentrated on building Mulletover and my DJ career. The very first Mulletover party was due to happen › Continue reading
Jesus Died So We Could Rave for Two Extra Days – Easter Weekend Update!
Tuesday, March 30th, 2010 | Event Preview | No Comments
A weekend bookended by bank holidays, don’t you just love Easter. Jesus died so we could rave for four days with out feeling guilty about work. I’m pretty sure that’s what it said in the bible. Plenty of stuff on so I won’t ramble on in this blasphemous theme.

Secretsundaze @ Stamford Works (Buy Tickets)
Ooo its nearly time for Secretsundaze to emerge from its winter cocoon and head back out into the great outdoors. I cannie wait. But just to wet your whistle they’re throwing a Bank Holiday warehouse party this Thursday. I remember reading somewhere that its at the great little warehouse called the Stamford Works in Dalston where the recent DDD birthday took place. Its round the back of the Jazz Bar and Kingsland Road station. However I can’t find where I read that, so the official word is its in Dalston and yet to be announced. For the line-up they’ve got a veteran of the New York scene Morgan Geist of Metro Area fame, whilst in support they have new comer Nina Kraviz who’s found breaking fame on Radioslave’s Rekids. › Continue reading
A Begrudging Weekend Update
Friday, March 26th, 2010 | Event Preview | No Comments
It’s not long until the bank holiday weekend arrives. Most people would be excited… unfortunately I’ve just broken my leg and won’t be getting up to much this weekend or next… So here is my begrudgingly short weekend update.
Hi Tek Soul @ Ministry (Buy Tickets)
It mainly boils down to a US techno face off. In the red corner we have Hi Tek Soul at Ministry. Derrick May returns to his exclusive London residency with Osunlade and Theo Parrish in toe. It’s a massive lineup for the main room sound system. In the other rooms Jim Masters heads up the newly named 103 room with Alex Robotnick, whilst the Micron guys take over the loft with a bit of help from Danny Ketoloco. And this is just the start of what’s to come at Ministry over the next year.
Jeff Mills @ Fabric (Buy Tickets)
In the blue corner however is an equally big titan of Detroit techno – Jeff Mills is making his return to London and Fabric room 1. He hasn’t played room 1 for quite some time, so this is sure to be something special, especially if Mills whips out his 909 for a bit of off the cuff percussion. Aux88 and Craig Richards will provide some worthy support, whilst the folks from Wiggle 16 years on will we slamming on some tech house in room 2.
Lost @ Plastic People (Buy Tickets)
Steve Bicknell continues his Lost residency at Plastic People, where DJs come and play anything that goes. One who does play across the board is Benji B, he’s on to headline the endangered basement this Saturday.
Wish I could be at either of these! Enjoy yourselves silly.
Mulletover 6th Birthday Competition
Monday, March 22nd, 2010 | Event Preview, News | 1 Comment
Wowzers, this Easter Weekend London staple night Mulletover celebrate six years of throwing parties in basements, warehouses, car parks and fields, not to mention the odd nightclub here and there. In that time under the guidance of Geddes and Rob Star, they’ve go on to secure their place as one of the leading club nights of London.
For their 6th Birthday they’ve got the warehouse on Suffolk Street in Southwark lined up with three rooms of delectable music. Mulletover will command the main room with those funny French blokes DOP doing a live set. We caught them at Lo*Kee back at the end of last year and they were amazing – fun quirky house that makes you dance. Will Saul and Matt Tolfrey along with the ever present resident Geddes will be providing support for the rest of the night. In the second room hosted by webzine Resident Advisor will feature the insanely deep Levon Vincent and the warm bright sounds of Floating Points whilst in the third room Tayo celebrates all that is 4/4 with Radio 1’s Heidi and Frank Tope for his night Lean Left.
It wouldn’t be a Mulletover party if there wasn’t some kind of fun dress up theme to get involved with. Whilst they haven’t quite reached 25 years they’re going for a silver theme, so anything goes from tin foil hats to full on shiny human sized disco balls. Sounds like the magpies will have a field day.
Since Mulletover are turning 6 they’re letting us run a competition for you lovely readers of earPIPE. For your chance to win two tickets, two birthday CD/DVDs and four free drinks, just simply answer the following question:
Along with Geddes who is the other creative force behind Mulletover?
A) Rob Star
B) Rob Jar
C) Rob Bar
Send your name and postal address to info@earpipe.com
If you win, you’re going to need some tickets for all your other friends too. You can still get them from Ticketweb and they’re still going at the £10 rate!

Sonar Line Up Announced!
Thursday, February 25th, 2010 | Event Preview | No Comments
So the bulk of the line-up has been announced and it’s looking pretty hot. We already knew The Chems, LCD Soundsystem and Air were on the bill. So who else is on? Well as expected Richie Hawtin is taking his Plastikman world tour to Sonar, we’re very excited about that! The musical genius that is Matthew Herbet will be in attendance too and Sonar firm favourite 2ManyDJs are also returning. Booka Shade will be bringing their live show to the delight of many and from the hip hop side of things Kid Koala is booked. I’ve only seen him once but his show was one of the most creative things I’ve seen in hip hop. Talking of hip hop, on of the originators The Sugar Hill Gang are also set to make an appearance!
One of the themes for this year will be a focus on the multi faceted British music scene which will showcase everything from the large acts like The Chems and Hot Chip though to the underground with the likes of Joy Orbison, Speech Debelle, Sandwell District and Fuck Buttons. No doubt more will be announced in the coming weeks and we’ll be sure to keep you posted.
In the mean time you better buy your tickets now:
UK residents should buy tickets from TICKETWEB
Everyone else in the world buy your tickets from Tickaticket
